Mainly because romance isn’t a huge focus in the series since Ratchet & Clank are the main focus (being besties) but even then there was and still is more development/ chemistry between Ratchet & Talwyn than Ratchet & Rivet. While I respect your opinion on not liking Talwyn as a character, I personally at least don’t really see Ratchet & Rivet happening. But, they gotta address Talwyn first, who would make it really, really awkward. It's like 'playing hard to get.'Īs someone who ships R&R pretty hard, I would even settle for them being best friends (besides Clank and Kit) because they have so much potential to talk and learn from each other as two heroic Lombaxes who were left behind in their own dimensions.

This is ironic since she has had the least amount of affectionate moments with him out of all the prior ones (Angela, Sasha, Talwyn), and more friendship-py scenes instead, with them being awkward or chill with each other - Having two likeable characters not immediately fall in love with each other has the inverse effect of making fans more passionate over shipping them. She definitely is the most popular female character to date by a large margin, especially for shipping with Ratchet.

I think Rivet comes across as the most compelling 'love interest' thus far in the series because she was written as an actual character and not just someone for Ratchet to romance. Not trying to imply they're gay for each other or anything btw, but that scene where they were staring longingly into each other's eyes while Happy Together played in the background was certainly pushing the limits, okay bye, sorry Overall, though, I'd be totally fine if they just decided to amp up the bromance to 11 and abandoned the idea that Ratchet and Clank need to have girlfriends at all when they have each other. At the same time, though it'd feel a bit weird if they just dropped Talwyn altogether after she's been in the series for so long, even if her presence has been weak. They're not my favorite ship at the moment, but I do agree that if Insomniac took the time to develop their relationship I could see them being really cute together and complimenting each other as they have similar experiences and backgrounds. They simply fill in the same roles in their respective dimensions. And they're counterparts, sure, but I don’t see them as the same person. Insomniac would have let everyone know right off the bat that they were blood related as to not let everyone unknowingly ship incest. I also don’t quite get why there's so much upset over RatchetxRivet. I'm kinda okay with her fussing over Ratchet as it makes a potentially interesting plot point where Ratchet has to make a decision whether he wants to settle down and retire for good, or if he wants to keep going and keep the universe safe at the risk of losing Talwyn, although I do get where you're coming from being annoyed by it. I’ve warmed up to her a bit since the comics and Into the Nexus now that they've fleshed her out a little and made it more obvious there's at least something there between her and Ratchet instead of just telling us that there is. Sure there was flirting and stuff but I definitely felt like she was shoehorned in as his canon girlfriend. They can explain that this all happened a while before Rift Apart and Ratchet’s meeting Rivet, so she wouldn’t be the reason for the breakup (cuz yeah, that would be really stupid and not like Ratchet). It would make the most sense considering it’s been “years” in-universe since Nexus. The end credits of RA shows them like this (if not still dating). His break-up with Sasha seemed turbulent (that dialogue at the beginning of Deadlocked), so I like the idea of him and Talwyn breaking up in the best way possible: amicably and them both realizing they should just be friends. He doesn’t necessarily have to “turn his back on her.” I think the best way for Insomiac to handle the situation with Talwyn is: explain that Ratchet and Talwyn came to a mutual agreement to call off their romantic relationship and stay good friends. And I did actually feel very sorry for her when her bots died.

Yeah, as much as I dislike Talwyn and her romance with Ratchet, I do still appreciate how she was there for him when he didn’t have Clank.
